Dennis Prager Speech on Why America is Exceptional

I had the opportunity to meet Dennis while he was in Tucson last week. I am lucky in that I work at the station that broadcasts his show to the Tucson area, so I got to sit in and watch him do his show. It was great to meet him, to his credit he is the same in person as he is on the radio and that is something that is to be admired in a public personality.

I listen to his show a lot, not only because I get paid to listen, but because it is very enlightening. Prager is like a Jewish version of C.S. Lewis, actually, if you spend any time reading Lewis’ books and any time listening to Prager on the radio, you’ll be able to see what I mean.

I found this speech on YouTube and decided to post it, since I haven’t posted in a while.

Who Is Really In Charge

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you are in charge of your government. Now there is a lot of truth in that statement, but only to a degree. You have control over who you vote for and you have God given rights to be an individual. You have the right to think and do for yourself, and that is how it should be.

In this country we vote for the people (politicians) that we agree with the most, even though it feels that at times we are choosing between the lesser of two evils. I think that it is important for the American people to know that they are in charge of their government in that respect. By no means do we have the ability to have a government that keeps us happy all of the time, if they did political blogging as we know it would be nonexistent because it would serve no purpose.

There are some things that you should remember if you are an American citizen, and you should keep this mindset as you think about politics. Your rights are not given to you by the American government, they are God given rights. You will not always be happy with a politician that gets into office, and you are not entitled to be happy with every politician. And you are free to live an abundant life, if you choose not to, that is your choice, the government should not have to bail you out after you chose the wrong path.

So, you are in charge of your government. America is a country “for the people, by the people.” The politicians in Washington are put into power by the people and hopefully they act with the interests of the people that gave them that opportunity in mind.
